The new renewable thermosetting polymer was born unexpectedly
In general, durable materials are hard to recycle. Therefore, these materials will be completely out of the history stage after "die to death". However, an accident has led scientists at the IBM research center to discover new members of the polymer family, a new type of plastic that has never been heard before.
Although the appearance is extremely hard, the quality of this amazing polymer is very lightweight, not only can realize the recycling, but also can repair itself.
Scientists at the IBM institute named the new plastic Titan. The researchers said the unexpected discovery of Titan would bring a productive revolution to aerospace, semiconductor materials, automobile manufacturing and microelectronics.
Sometimes small oversight can lead to big problems; But sometimes small negligence can bring unexpected surprise. Dr. Jeannette Garcia accidentally forgot to add some ingredient to a standard recipe for some kind of plastic. When she returned to the laboratory to observe the results, she was surprised to find that the liquid mixture in the beaker had become a white, hard polymer. Even the grinding machine can't remove the material from the beaker.
According to the IBM institute, Dr Garcia's surprise discovery injected fresh blood into plastic research. For more than a decade, most of the polymers have been synthesized on the basis of the original material and lack of innovation.
As a thermosetting polymer, Titan is as hard as bone and has excellent impact resistance. However, compared with other thermosetting plastics, this new type of plastic can be recycled indefinitely.
