Innovative PET bottles to open new markets
Ohio's Plastic Technologies, Inc. (PTI) company launched a called Fi - Cell technology, the technology can greatly change the appearance of the PET bottle, the company said the innovation methods will open new markets for advocates of PET packaging.
Ron Puvak, director of marketing and new business development at PTI, said the technology would be a hit. He believes foaming PET bottles will change the face of the industry.
"According to statistics, the appeal of branded products to consumers is only 2.3 seconds on the shelf," he said in a recent Pack Expo in Chicago. Using our technology, we can make a packaging that is no longer uneventful, and can stay attractive long after we leave the shelves."
PTI says the single-layer container produced by fi-cell comes with "visually beautiful metallic finishes without the use of expensive metallic colorants."
Fi-cell technology can form tiny bubbles in PET, which is actually developed by dongyang canning co., which hopes to find partners to expand its application. The technology is complemented by the PTI's own oPTI brewing technology, which was introduced years ago.
Today PTI has two series of foaming bottles, which supply customers with distinctive packaging.
Foaming PET is injected liquid nitrogen into the preforming process and then becomes opaque during the molding process.
"The cost of any bubble bottle, no matter what we're talking about, is a big expense," he said. You must improve the injection molding system so that it can be foamed into desired packaging. After this, the processing is no different than any other blow - plastic packaging." It has no effect on the filling operation.
Puvak did not disclose the cost of fi-cell in injection moulding, but said the cost would depend on different applications.
A side benefit of foaming PET is that it is easier to print than normal.
"PET has great automatic leveling," Puvak said. It would never warp. It likes to adjust itself. But using oPTI or Fi- Cell, we found that we actually had a great crush effect."
"These little bubbles like to move a little bit, and then you get such an excellent embossed effect," he said. Standard PET bottles can't do that."
Puvak says this allows brands to build their unique brand identity through PET packaging.
There are also fewer colorants for foaming PET, since small bubbles don't need to be colored. "We just have a PET color," he said. "it's just a matter of interest." A non-colorant foaming PET can be made into a white or silver opaque bottle.
Foam bottles are 5 per cent lighter than the average bottle, but Puvak says the technology is actually not related to weight loss.
"We don't see light quantification as a major development," Puvak said. In fact, our main focus is on the differentiated advantages of the goods on the shelves and the use of PET in innovative ways. All we do is provide a new path for PET."
PTI thinks fizzy drinks, wine, alcoholic beverages and cosmetics are the potential markets for foaming PET. "These products all need to get a differentiated advantage on the shelf," he said. A lot of people have shown interest in it."
