Green plastic development momentum is indispensable
As a green plastic, bioplastics has developed rapidly in recent years and has preliminarily established its important position in the commercial market.
The data suggest that Europe is the world's largest consumer market for biology-based plastics. In 2012, the use of biology-based plastics in the region accounted for more than half of the world's total. European consumers are more likely to opt for a new type of bio-based plastic than traditional plastic, according to the report. As a result, the region is expected to continue to lead the list of bio-based plastic consumption.
With the introduction of national energy conservation and environmental protection policies, bioplastics have gradually become stronger in the market, and the development of biology-based bioplastics PET is expected to be most prominent. By 2020, there will be five million tons of bio-plastic biology-made from ethanol made from sugarcane. Because of the abundance of natural resources in Asia and South America, the money to develop bioplastics will go to these two continents. South America's bio-plastic capacity will account for 18 percent of global production in 2020, surpassing Europe and North America.
New applications in the automotive and electronics industries will drive growth in demand for bioplastics, although packaging will still dominate the market, and its share is expected to fall from 65 per cent in 2007 to 40 per cent in 2025. By 2025, Asia will be the leader in the bioplastics market, accounting for about 32 per cent of the market, followed by Europe with 31 per cent and the us with 28 per cent.
In response to the green trend, demand for bioplastics or bio-based polymers will only increase. As the world's largest producer of sugarcane, it is natural for Brazil to develop bioplastics. A new study by the nova Institute in Germany suggests that a large number of investments in bio-based polymers will be invested in Asia and South America.
Given the current market trend, the European bioplastics association believes that the packaging industry is expected to continue to be the largest application of bioplastics in the coming years. Among them, packaging bags and sacks and loosely packed packaging will continue to be the main market for bioplastics. And the growth in demand for packaging films, cars and electronic applications will not be underestimated.
