Plastic imports in Brazil surged 24.2 per cent in the year to October
Brazilian plastic imports rose 24.2 percent from a year earlier to $2.23 billion in the january-october period, according to data released by the Brazilian plastics industry association. Exports fell 10.9 per cent year on year, down from $1.83 billion last year to $1.63 billion. The trade deficit rose to $683 million from $33.5 million.
In the first 10 months of this year, Brazil's LDPE imports totaled $179 million, up 27.6% year on year. Imports of LLDPE resin were $481 million, up 21.1% year on year. HDPE imports $393 million, up 25.6 percent.
In October, Brazil imported $25.2 million in low-density polyethylene (LDPE) imports, an increase of 98.6 percent from September. The import of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) was $59.2 million, an increase of 73.9%. High density polyethylene (HDPE) imports $50.4 million, up 65% from the previous month.
According to the analysis thinks, recent plastic imports surge in Brazil, is mainly due to the imported petrochemical products especially shale gas as raw material to produce petrochemical products in the United States prices are relatively low, and starting from October this year, Brazilian cancelled high tariffs.
